okay so we're going to look at this one and it talks about the tennis tournament the tennis tournament ended at 4:15 p.m. it began 6 hours and 20 minutes earlier when did the tennis tournament begin so I have what there's three parts to solving elapsed time problems I have my end time and I have my I have my aunt I'm in my what's the d word we learned their duration I had my income on my generation so I'm solving for start time okay so let's start our timeline all right we have our in time we said was what time 415 will put that at the end of our timeline and we know that our duration is 6 hours and 20 minutes so I'm going to ride that ride up here for 6 hours 20 minutes okay and I'm coughing for my start time so in this case we're actually going to kind of work our self backward okay I'm going to jump I'm going to use my key up here for the symbols let me come out and show that this is our key right here that we use alright so if I start at 4:15 I have to jump how many hour Nick so here we got ready 1 2 3 4 5 6 and then 20 minutes plus what's the best way I could do 20 min there's a couple of ways Johnson what can I do to 10 but they ready 110 + 210 are we finished now we got to figure out what time for free right it's a little harder going backwards for 15 if I move back an hour it's going to be what time 3:15 back another hour is going to be 215 good another hour back 115 another hour back 12:15 another hour bag 1115 okay Mill look I just passed well so I'm going to change from p.m. to a.m. if that's how is that apply and then one more hour back is 10:15 okay if I have 10:15 think about my clock if I have 10:15 and I'm going to go back 10 minutes am I not taken away 10 minutes yes hey what's 15 take away 10 why so it would be 10:05 now this one's really hard thank you. if I go back 5 minutes from 10 to 10:05 what time will it be no 5 minutes it'll be 10 right and I've got another 5 minutes so it's going to be 5 minutes before 10 which would be what 955 okay now let's look and see if we need AMPM the problem does say 4:15 p.m. so when we went from 4:15 p.m. backwards to 9:55 did we cross at 12 remember the 12th 4 a.m. p.m. so it switched from p.m. to a.m. so our answer 9:55 a.m.
